Dangers of Crackers When You Do Not Feel Good

Crackers Anchorage Dental Associates AK 99503-2838When battling the flu or an upset stomach, a pack of crackers if often the food that we seek out.

While Saltine crackers might help with queasiness, crackers are actually one of the worst foods for your teeth.

Stay Away from Saltines
If you thought that candy and chocolate bars were the worst foods for your teeth, think again. Saltine crackers are the most cavity-causing food on the market. Packed with simple starch, Saltines convert to sugar almost as soon as you pop them in your mouth.

The bacteria found in plaque love these starches, feeding on them until they multiply. You're left with bad breath and a ton of cavity-causing bacteria all over your teeth.

Plus, if you don't feel well, chances are good that you won't be brushing in the immediate future, giving them more time to wreak havoc on your mouth.

Goldfish Crackers Aren't Much Better
You shouldn't substitute goldfish crackers for Saltines, either. In addition to the reasons listed above, goldfish crackers tend to stick to the teeth, remaining wedged in the crevices long after you've finished eating. The bacteria already growing in your mouth will feast on sugar until you are able to properly clean your mouth.

Remember to Make Oral Health a Priority

When you don't feel well, it can be easy to let your oral hygiene routine fall by the wayside. Still, you need to try and keep up with brushing and flossing.

At minimum, rinse your mouth out when you get a chance, especially after you vomit or eat anything. Choose foods that will best support your oral health if you are able, like crunchy fruits and vegetables. Even chewing some sugar-free gum could help.
